Traditional Tales

This half term in Reception our theme has been ' Traditional Tales.'  We have enjoyed learning the stories of The Three Little Pigs, Golidlocks and the Three Bears and Jack and the Beanstalk.

 The Three Little Pigs

We were set a challenge to make a house out of either straw, sticks or bricks that would be strong enough to withstand the Big Bad Wolf (Mrs Powley's hairdryer!)  We had to work together in small groups and talk to each other about what we were going to do.  We also went for a local area walk to the Village to look at different types of houses and the materials they are made from, as well as looking for 3D shapes in the environment.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

We enjoyed our Teddy Bear's Picnic where we tasted different flavoured porridge.  We also placed objects in order of size and focused on different ways of making and representing the number 3

Jack and the Beanstalk

At the start of the topic we planted broad beans and have watched them grow over the past few weeks, recording the changes in our 'bean diaries.'  We compared the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk and Jim and the Beanstalk and tasted different types of beans.  Our favourite was the baked beans!  We also described the character of the Giant as part of our literacy work.

  • We put ourselves in height order
